If you have pain in your knees and you do a lot of bending, walking and stooping, it is hard to know if you are experiencing arthritis knee pain.  How do you know if this is not an ordinary knee injury from over exertion or extending.  Well one thing that will give you a key if you have arthritis symptoms is joint stiffness as well as pain.  Stiffness in the joint usually happens first thing in the morning or when you have had limited activity.  Arthritis knee pain is caused by the damage cartilage in the knee joint causing pain.  The knee cartilage is worn down usually by repetitive movement of the same joints.  The knees are the most used joints in the body so the deterioration start her first.  But of course, make an appointment with your doctor to get a definite diagnosis.

There are over 100 types of arthritis, so to get to the real answer may require some digging. x-rays and blood tests can rule out most kinds.
Even if arthritis is discovered, the most common prescription is Motrin or Naprosyn a few times a day, plus ice packs.
You could be lucky. It might just be weak muscles on the side of the knee, for which you can do physical therapy. Either way, good luck.

call your doctor and have him/her send you for x-rays – that’s the only definite way you’ll know if it’s arthritis or if you injured it in some other way
