What is my knee pain?

I am a Teenage female and have been experiencing knee pain on only my left knee. It comes and goes and is more of a "shooting pain" on the top left side of my knee cap. I am not athletic and i usually wear converse tennis shoes. I have no family history of knee pain or arthritis. Can anyone please tell me what is wrong with my knee?

    Could also be irritated nerves (an example only) such as due to growing pains, but I would recommend that you let your parents know what’s going on so that they can help you keep an eye on the situation and also see your doctor about it to see what they think could be going on.
