Alright. So my SO went to the ER (we live in different states) because his hips have been bothering him severely. His symptoms are:
-Joint pain, sometimes on the outside, sometimes on the inside front of his hip joint
-Pain when walking or running
-Pain when rotating the hip, such as up, down, around.
-Improves with rest, aggravates quickly with activity
He didn’t catch what the ER doctor said, saying something about "ci-something" but he wasn’t clear and didn’t come back afterward. I don’t think it’s a SI Joint Injury, because that’s towards the upper back of the pelvic girdle. It was also not sciatica. I was thinking osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis, but none of those descriptions sound familiar to him per what the doctor said (really frustrated that I couldn’t be there to decipher the doctor jargon).
Any ideas to what it could be? I need to know what he has so that I can counsel him on what the treatment options are and to know what’s going on.
I really don’t think it’s arthritis because he’s 21. He’s in the army though and does a lot of physical activity.
He can’t see another doctor, he doesn’t have an current health insurance till next fall.
He’s in the reserve, at the moment. The army doesn’t have a record of his hip pains at the moment. He can request his chart from the ER?

You can request a copy of his medical records from the hospital’s medical records department.
My husband is exactly like yours. If I don’t speak to the doctor I’m left deciphering "ci something". Knowing how my husband thinks I’m wondering if the "ci something" he heard was an itis, bursitis, tendinitis, something along those lines which would mean it’s probably inflammation of something or other.. Inflammation is a pretty common cause of pain. While you’re trying to figure this out you can get him taking an anti-inflamatory. It’s not going to hurt him. You can get ibuprofen (Motrin)over the counter and have him take 4 pills ( 800 mg) every 8 hours. That would be the prescription strength dosage.
Just see another doctor.
Is he active duty army or the one weekend a month army? ask for a copy of the med record. He has to do this.
If he does a lot of activity in the army, especially repetitive activities, that could cause arthritis to set in,even at such a young age. Yes, he can request his chart from the ER. That would probably be a good idea if you are unsure what the diagnosis was.
You have an easy one here, his cords in his legs are too short and giving him trouble. That is easy to fix. He has to lay on his back with the other leg out straight. Pull the one up and wrap his hands around it and squeeze for about a minute and half and then he can roll over on his side and while maintaining the pressure slowly extend the leg, then roll back on his back and still maintaining the pressure slip his hands back up his leg some to get a new grip and hold on for about another two minutes to get that muscle to relax fully. Then he can extend it and let it rest for a minute. Now he can pull it back up and grap it behind the knee again and find the cords with his finger tips put pressure on them and hold for thirty seconds and then SLOWLY start to extend it, this time from his back. If he goes too fast it will lock the cords up and he will have to start that part over again. There is also a cord half way up the outer side of his leg, he has to also try to get that one. After a full extension, let it rest for a minute. Now he can pull his foot up and grab his lower muscle with both hands on the end towards his ankle, putting his thumbs about an inch apart. Pressre again for about a minute and half and then extension of that muscle, pullling the toes upward and then rest. Nowhe can drop his fingers down to about the ankle and again, squeeze, this time on the tendon itself. After a minute he can again SLOWLY start to pull the toes up and get a full extension of that cord. Now if he puts his fingers on the cords on the top of the ankle right in the open area of the joint, he can put pressure on them and wait for about a minute again and then SLOWLY extend his foot all the way. he should start with his foot a little pulled up for this one. Please keep me posted on how it went for him, and they won’t be bad for you either, it makes a world of difference with the feet. There is one more for the bottoms of the feet if he is interested.
