My mom has been unable to walk for the past 2 days due to knee complications. She says she feels severe internal pain around the upper section of the right knee (patellar/femur area?) and it extends all the way down the side area (fibular area?). It’s quote swollen around the patella area, and she says it became worse since yesterday. Occasionally, she says feels a type of strain in her right hip area when too much pressure is exerted on her right knee. As well, she says sometimes she has been feeling a type of burning/itchy sensation along her lower spine area until the tailbone (which has been occurring before the pain/swelling happened (?)). Could this be rheumatoid arthritis?

Please don’t rely solely on my description as I’m only 16 and not a doctor, I tried my best to describe it!

Other than a visit to the doctor, can anybody please give any advice (or even possible diagnoses) on what to do until then?

Thank you, all help is greatly appreciated!
Oh, and I’m checking to see if she has a fever
95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius)
She also now feels swelling in her right-handed index finger!

Don’t ice the knee it will more than likely make this pain worse. It sounds like the tendon for the kneecap is shortened up as the tendons will do from time to time. In that state they are pulled up on and into the knee, binding things up which causes the pain. Here is how she can release that:
    Kneecaps:
Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces.
While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched mode. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
For that to work she must have the pressure constant the whole time. If for some reason it doesn’t work try it one more time.
For her back she probably has pinched muscles in her lower back. Here is how she can release the muscles to get rid of that pain:
    Back:
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and find the muscles next to your spine and press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but remain there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
I would do this one first so she has easier moving to do the other one.

She may have torn a ligament in her knee causing severe pain. It could be arthritis but I’ve never heard it hurt that bad…ice the knee to keep swelling down and motrin. Heat for the lower back. Definately take her to the doctor. Hope this helps!!
