I am 28 weeks pregnant and i have been experiencing SEVERE pain in my pelvic area, hips and lower back. When i get dressed i cant even bend over to put my pant or panties on. i have to put them on the floor and put my feet in and bend over to pull them up. i can only lift my feet off the floor maybe 3 inches. i walk like an 80 yr old woman with arthritis. im not very active and im wondering if thats something to do with it. i told my mom today and she said to see the doc immediatly because in all of her 5 prenancys (she wasnt active at all and gained lots of weight) she never experienced that at all. tonight while i was sitting on the couch watching tv i got a few pains in my back and started to get a warm spreadiung feeling through out my lower back.. i know what labour pains feel like and i dont think its that, and the baby is stilll moving…i dont know maybe im just another paranoid mom to be….
AAAAAAAHHHHH no…with my first daughter the docotors all told me it was my psychotic (makes me psychotic and i cant spell the other word) nerve, turns out it took about 3 trips to the ememrgency room to find out it was my placenta lifting from the uterine wall…doesnt feel like that though, just feels like a really really really stiff muscle with some sharp pains added to it :P

5 Comments on SEVERE Pelvic, Back and hip pain in pregnancy…is this much normal?

  1. misskb says:

It could be SPD (Symphysis Pubic Disorder) which is a relatively common problem in pregnancy. The ligaments in your pelvic region are stretching to accomodate the baby and sometimes the front part of your pelvis can separate too far causing hip, pelvic and back pain. Speak to your midwife as she will know far more about this than your GP. Try wearing a bump support – in severe cases your midwife should be able to supply one for you. Good luck!

Yep, that is totally normal. It’s called sciatica and it’s due to pressure being put on your sciatic nerve, the longest nerve in your body that travels from the base of your spine all the way to your thighs. I’d go see a chiropractor, as they can adjust the sublaxation in your sciatica (laymen’s term: you probably have a pinch somewhere in your sciatic nerve and it needs to be fixed).

I personally would not consider any kind of SEVERE pain normal!! But there are many things that could be causing your pain. As your baby grows, it puts pressure on your spine, which in turn can cause pain/burning in different areas of your body. Try getting on your hands and knees, and arching your back up. If your baby is pressing some nerve, that might help relieve some of the pain. I had alot of nerve pain and that was suggested to me. It helped alot!! If it persists for long, better be more safe than sorry and at least call your Dr.
