Carol asks…

Do people with neurological disorders such as Tourette Syndrome receive financial aid for college?

Also, is it easier for someone with neurological disorders to get accepted into colleges?

DJ answers:

There are a few small privately funded college scholarships available for people with Tourette’s Syndrome, and for some other neurological disorders. There is no federally sponsored aid available for these. There is also no program to help make it easier to get into college, but you can describe the hardships that such a condition has caused in your application essay. If you can show strong academic success despite such a condition, you might make your application essay more appealing.

Once accepted, a student with a neurological disorder can file with the office of students with disabilities. That will allow them to take their tests in testing centers, take extra time to take their tests, have someone read the questions to them or take notes for them in class, or give them other aids to make the educational process easier.

Charles asks…

what sort of neurological disorders cause dandruff? Can the dandruff ever be cured?

I heard that some neurological disorders contribute to dandruff. I was wondering what they were and if a cure for the dandruff exists. I have pretty bad dandruff, and all the measures I take(cleaning comb, shampooing, etc,) only work temporarily. I’d like to know if there’s a permanent fix to my problem.

DJ answers:

Whoa, definitely not a neurological disorder. Fear not! The problem is probably very minor and could result from a change in seasons or a change in environment. I started to get a little flaky moving coasts, but switched to a dandruff shampoo and the problem righted itself almost immediately. Head and Shoulders is nice, so is Selson Blue — it’s good to get a medicated shampoo, but if you don’t like the “medicated” smell, try a normal conditioner (or one you like the smell of) after the dandruff shampoo. If it still doesn’t go away, maybe try speaking to a doctor about it. But not a neurologist!

Sandra asks…

Mental and neurological disorders family history. Should my partner and I conceive?

Both my boyfriend and I have a extensive family history. I have some neurological disorders in my family called NF1. I also have bipolar and adhd in my family. I have a slight NF1. My boyfriend has bipolar, adhh, ocd, and schizophrenia in his family. And he has adhd. We’re debating if we should have a child. Is it possible to have a child without any of these conditions?

DJ answers:

My daughter has Nf1 also….. I know of this one paticular thing that when she grows up to be of age to have children it will be like a 50-50 shot of wheather her kids will get it or not …anytime anyone has a baby there is a chance of it having problems even if both parents are healthy. If youwant a baby maybe you both should talk to ur dr and see what the chances are on everything all together
