Lower back pain is one of the primary complaints in the modern world. After all, our sedentary lifestyles cause accelerated disc degeneration.

So here is how to make sure lower back pain doesn’t retard your weight loss:

1. Get lumbar supports for everything: They are cheap and will provide automatic support every time you sit down. I recommend getting a lumbar support for every single thing you sit in. This will give you ease of mind and ensure proper posture when sitting.

2. Avoid early morning back flexion: In other words, do not bend over or flex your lower back at any point in the early morning. During this time period, your lower back has more fluid in its discs than usual, so you want to avoid movement for at least an hour.

3. Focus on stabilization: Do not do endless crunches, sit ups and leg raises thinking that they increase lower back health. Because more often than not, they decrease lower back health in people with pain. So do stabilizing movements first and foremost.

4. Avoid all pain: A little discomfort is ok, but pain is never warranted with lower back issues. You need to avoid all instigators no matter what. If you don’t, you will make things worse and can potentially exacerbate your lower back problem beyond repair.

5. Use alternative methods of support: In other words, when you lift something from a lower level, use your free arm and/or legs to help you. Don’t let your lower back absorb all the weight. This is a great technique for further accelerating recovery.

6. Don’t become dependent on temporary quick fixes: For instance, make sure you don’t rely on alternative practitioners for lower back relief. Use them to get you out of painful situations, but make sure the core of your focus in on strengthening the stabilizers in your lower back.

Reducing lower back pain can take time. After all, barring major trauma, you didn’t get lower back pain from one day to the next. So be patient and more importantly, take action here now!
