In this article today I would like to discuss three better ways to treat arthritis then what you may have already heard or may already be doing yourself. I think that just about everyone has either had arthritis themselves or certainly knows somebody in their lives who has it themselves. Luckily you may not have to suffer needlessly anymore!

When it comes right down to it there are more than 40 million Americans who suffer from arthritis, or as it’s referred to osteoarthritis, which is the chronic disease where your cartilage degenerates and leads to joint pain as well as stiffness. Hopefully you are already receiving proper care for this disease but unfortunately sometimes this is not the case.

Regular treatment for osteoarthritis is done by giving nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs as they are referred to. These can include things like ibuprofen or Celebrex. The problem here is that these things will stop the pain but they will also inhibit the formation of any new cartilage which can of course lead to more joint destruction and pain.

So exactly what can we do about it?

- The first thing to do is to eliminate the source of inflammation, not just the symptoms. Many times arthritis can be created by an allergy and often times a blood test can pin this down for you. If you eliminate the allergy then you eliminate the arthritis.

- The second thing you can do is to eat foods that have been found to decrease inflammation. These foods include fish as well as dark purple fruits like blueberries and blackberries and even plums and some cherries. Sulfur rich vegetables are also good in this regard and these can include things like garlic, cabbage, brussels sprouts, and also onions.

- Finally, the third thing that you can do to treat arthritis is to take nutritional supplements that help protect your joints. There are many different ones to choose from but some of the more popular ones are called glucosamine sulfate and Indian frankincense. Both of these nutrients should offer a measure of pain relief as well which is certainly a benefit.

Osteoarthritis can be an infuriating and painful condition that nobody wants to live with. Taking over-the-counter drugs may seem like a quick solution but as I’ve already mentioned, these can hurt you more in the long run with continued use by inhibiting the formation of new cartilage.

Why not try these three alternative methods of fighting arthritis and see just how well they work for you. You never know, you might just find that you don’t need that Ibuprofen or Celebrex after all!
