It is generally the elderly that suffer the polymyalgia symptoms. A fast onset of symptoms can be quite shocking and lead people to think of a more serious health complication like stroke or heart attack. Because of the intense pain associated with the symptoms, it can be a scary situation to arise that will most definitely result in a doctors visit. Although the pain feels muscular in origin there does not have to be any previous physical activity to have triggered it. With a combination of the pain intensity, sudden onset and not really knowing exactly what is happening, it can be very unsettling for the individual.
